Hopes that work may start soon on Cashel Gates junction in South Sligo

After years of waiting, a Sligo councillor says improvement works at a dangerous junction on the N17 in the south of the county can now at last go ahead after a licence having been issued from Irish Rail.

During past years, virtually all councillors in the area have raised the issue of the junction, known as Cashel Gates, located between Tubbercurry and Curry.

In the past, it has been described as ‘a death trap.’

It is beside a crossing on an unused railway.

Now, Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor says that with Irish Rail having issued a licence, work on the junction should finally be able to start very soon.
