A Sligo Councillor has called for a major ‘Right2Water’ style demonstration later this year in opposition to the new bin charges.
Sligo People Before Profit Councillor Gino O’Boyle says that the new system will only benefit the private bin companies.
From September of this year, the government plans to allow waste disposal companies to charge by weight.
However many companies in the North West already charge either by weight or by lift.
Councillor O’Boyle maintains the public would be better served if County Councils looked after the waste collection and he says their party is planning an information campaign:
