Sit-in at Department of Agriculture offices continue



Day three of a sit-in at the Department of Agriculture offices is underway.

The protest is by tillage farmers who are not happy with reports of a proposed cap of €5000 on the amount farmers would be paid from the government’s crisis fund.

The tillage crisis fund was announced last year after the poor winter weather wiped out many farmers grain crop.

The counties worst affected include Donegal and Galway and right along the western seaboard where up to 300 farmers have been affected.

Peter Lynch, the Chair of the IFA’s Grain Committee in Donegal spoke to me earlier today to outline what the plans are for the weekend if not progress is made today:
