Pressure mounts on Agriculture Minister to meet tillage farmers



Calls are mounting for the Minister for Agriculture to resolve a dispute with tillage farmers.

It follows a protest at the Department of Agriculture in Dublin, over a payments cap for farmers affected by last year’s weather.

Donegal Grain IFA Chair Peter Lynch is among those that have been staging the sit-in since Wednesday.

Opposition TDs have been expressing their support for the campaign with Tipperary Deputy Mattie McGrath accusing Minister Michael Creed of arrogance in not meeting them.

Donegal FF Agriculture spokesperson Charlie McConalogue also says it’s extraordinary that the Minister has failed to meet farmers.

While Independent Roscommon Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice says the west of ireland was the worst affected by the loss of these crops last year and action is now needed by the Minister:
