Border Communities Against Brexit wins Euro award

The campaign group Border Communities Against Brexit has won a top European Award.

It’s been given the European Citizens Award 2017 for its efforts in defending cross border cooperation.

It was nominated by six Irish MEPs: Martina Anderson, Matt Carthy, Lynn Boylan, Liadh ni Riada, Marian Harkin and Nessa Childers.

An public event to celebrate the group’s success will take place in Monaghan’s Garage Theatre on Friday, July 14th at 7:30pm.

Border Communities Against Brexit says that while the award is a recognition of its efforts, it also shows the EU institutions understand the impact that Brexit is having on border communities.

However, spokesman Declan Fearon says no one has yet outlined how the unique situation along the border between North and South will actually be dealt with.
