A Sligo Councillor says the government is missing out on an opportunity to ease the social housing crisis by using local credit unions to help with investment.
Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus Kilgannon of Sligo Credit Union is also a Board Member of the Irish League of Credit Unions.
Representatives from the League appeared before the Oireachtas Housing Committee yesterday to outline the resources they have available to invest in social housing.
Councillor Kilgannon says they are looking for a special purpose fund to be set up which would allow credit unions to pool funds that could be used for this purpose.
