A homecoming for Sligo swimmer Mona McSharry takes place in Grange today

A home coming in honour of Sligo swimming star Mona McSharry takes place in her home town of Grange this evening.

McSharry claimed her second European title and third medal in five days at yesterday’s European Junior Swimming Championship in Isreal yesterday with an outstanding win in the one hundred metre breaststroke final.

A special home coming event to honour the 17-year-old’s superb achievements will take place at Grange Village car park tonight at 8.30pm.

McSharry’s next competition is the World Junior Championships in the US in August.

Speaking to Ocean Fm News this afternoon, Grange based Independent Councillor Marie Casserly spoke of the area’s pride in the young swimmer.

Councillor Casserly said McSharry’s hard work, hours of training and determination has paid off.
