All Heritage sites in the country will be free for children under 12 this summer.
The Office of Public Works currently offers children under the age of 6, free entry into all the countries heritage sites. According to the Minister for The Office of Public Works, Kevin Moran, the new intiative which is starting this weekend, is to; ‘encourage our children to experience some of the best cultural and heritage sites in the country.’
The OPW currently offers free access to all school children under the Free Schools Visits programme which about 80,000 children availed of in 2016.
In the North West region, the likes of Donegal Castle, Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and Parkes Castle will be part of the new initiative.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Independent Councillor in Donegal, Niamh Kennedy welcomed the initiative.
