Leitrim Councillor calls for national campaign on school transport scheme



A Leitrim Councillor is calling for a cross-party campaign to ensure that proposed changes to the School Transport scheme don’t go ahead.

The changes could make it more difficult for primary school students to avail of the bus scheme.

Parents in the Bunninaden and Killavil area in Sligo are meeting on the issue tonight.

Independent Leitrim Councillor Des Guckian says a similar meeting took place in Gortletteragh in Leitrim last week.

He says pupils are being forced to travel further away to school and it will lead to a break-up of rural parishes.

He says communities need to come together to campaign on the issue at a national level:
