Donegal branch of Diabetes Ireland meeting with Minister for Health today

A meeting between the Minister for Health and the Donegal branch of Diabetes Ireland is taking place today.

Fianna Fail TD Charlie McConologue raised the issue in the Dail with the Health Minister last week.

He called for a diabetes centre of excellence to be set up in Letterkenny and raised concerns about the shortage of a Paediatric consultant.

An insulin pump therapy service for children started at Sligo University Hospital in 2015 with outreach clinics in Letterkenny but since then a consultant post became vacant.

The Minister says efforts are being made to fill this post again and in the meantime paediatricians in Letterkenny and Sligo are training to be able to administer this pump therapy.

Deputy McConologue says filling this Sligo post is also vital for children in Donegal:
