The President of Letterkenny Institute of Technology says he expects the process for the ITs in this region to achieve university status to progress soon.
Letterkenny IT, Sligo IT and Galway/Mayo IT have applied to become technological universities in recent years under the umbrella of the Connacht/Ulster Alliance.
The process is currently at stage two of four with the Technological Universities Bill, the next stage of the process due to go to the Dáil to be approved soon.
The bill had been due to be discussed in the Dáíl sooner but last year’s General Election delayed proceedings.
