Irish Water to re-start O’Connell Street works in September

Irish Water says it will be restarting its work in O’Connell Street in September.

This work is expected to be completed in November and details of traffic and pedestrian plans will be issued in the coming weeks

It’s one of three major projects in Sligo involving investment of more than €10 million.

The Sligo City Water Main Rehabilitation and Pearse Road Sewer Network is due to be fully completed in December 2018.

Works on that scheme are currently taking place in Teeling Street and John Street, where diversions are in place.

Meanwhile, Irish water’s third major project in Sligo is the upgrading of sewerage plants in Tubbercurry, Grange, Strandhill and Ballinafad.

A contract has yet to be awarded for this project.

Irish Water’s Sean Corrigan says that in relation to its works in and around Sligo town, it has been doing its best to cooperate with local businesses.

And he says if there is short-term pain because of any disruption, it’s all for long-term gain.
