Three people brought to hospital following Connaughton Road incident

Three people have been brought to Sligo University Hospital following an incident at Connaughton Road car park in Sligo Town this morning.

Sligo County Council had arranged for a wooden fence in the car park to be removed and for the replacement of a height control bar at the entrance to the car park.

Having attempted to resist the dismantling of the fence, a woman and two teenagers were taken to hospital having sustained injuries to their arms and wrists.

A company working on behalf of Sligo County Council had been taking down a fence in the car park when a number of people attempted to stop them.

They were removed by Gardaí but the three people involved claim they were injured in the process.

One man was also detained in a nearby Garda van.

Sligo County Council say they were removing the fence and replacing a height control bar at the entrance to the car park. They say this was the subject of previous discussion with the McGinley family who have lived in the car park for almost four decades.

Ocean FM News also understands that the council intends today, to line the parking spaces in the car park.

David Goulden reports from Connaughton Road car park.
