Man who died following kayaking incident at Aughris Head is named



The man who died in a kayaking incident at Aughris Head yesterday evening has been named locally as Paddy McCarrick.

Mr McCarrick had been out kayaking with a group that left from Aughris pier yesterday evening.

 

The Malin Head Coastguard confirmed last night that they got an emergency call in connection with a group of kayakers in difficulty shortly after 8pm last night.

The RNLI and the Sligo Rescue Helicopter 118 which was returning to its base from Westport went directly to the scene.

The ambulance service and coastguard also attended the scene.

The man who was in his 60s was removed from the water and taken to Sligo University Hospital shortly before half eight.

The other kayakers were all escorted safely back to shore.

It was confirmed this morning that the man passed away.

The man who was in his sixties has been named locally today as Paddy McCarrick from Garavogue Villas in Sligo.

He will be laid to rest on Friday.
