A Sligo-based member of Renua says the party is pro-life.
There had been confusion in the past about where the party stood on the issue but former election candidate Finbar Filan says its candidates will now have to be pro-life and vote pro-life.
However, speaking to Ocean FM’s North West Today Show, he accepted not all Renua members may hold that view and he said they respected the opinions of others.
But he says in the past, party candidates suffered because some voters expected they may have come out more strongly on the pro-life side.
The party is hosting a meeting on the future of the Citizen’s Assembly in The Glasshouse Hotel at 7:30pm on Thursday.
Among the items expected to come up for discussion is the 8th Amendment and Renua’s new stance emphassing its prolife position.
Both pro-life and pro-choice advocates are welcome to attend the meeting.
