New Cathaoirleach in south Sligo says jobs ‘a priority’



Councillor Jerry Lundy has been appointed the Cathaoirleach of the Tubbercurry/Ballymote/West Sligo Municipal District.

The Tubbercurry man assumes the position for the first time in thirteen years since his appointment to the council in 2004.

Councillor Lundy was proposed by his fellow South Sligo Fianna Fáil Councillors Martin Baker and Paul Taylor.

Speaking to Ocean Fm News at the council buildings at Teach Laighne in Tubbercurry today, Councillor Lundy said that job creation in the district, particularly in Tubbercurry, will be top of his list of priorities.

to elect the new Mayor of Sligo is underway now.

The outgoing Mayor is Independent Marie Casserly and it’s understood talks were continuing over the weekend to finalise the next Councillor to take up the position.

While, Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus Kilgannon will take up the chains of the Cathaoirleach of the county at the AGM later this afternoon.

He replaces outgoing Cathaoirleach Hubert Keaney.
