McConalogue says childcare scheme not working for all



A Donegal TD is claiming that a government scheme to reduce childcare costs is not working.

Fianna Fail’s Charlie McConalogue says parents are still paying more than €140 a week on childcare despite claims costs would be dramatically reduced under the Single Affordable Childcare Scheme.

He says middle-income families are losing out on the full subsidy.

Deputy McConalogue says that’s because the Department of Children is relying on the GP visit card and the medical card to deliver the scheme.

He told Ocean FM how the system is hitting those on middle incomes who, he said, have to pay thousands of euro a year on childcare:
