Census shows North West’s workforce numbers are falling



The workforce in the North West is falling – the opposite of what’s happening nationally.

This week, the second set of results from the CSO on Census 2016 were revealed showing that Sligo had the biggest decrease in its workforce with a 3% drop compared to the 2011 Census.

Around 1% fewer people were working in counties Donegal and Leitrim.

While the unemployment figures are much higher than the national average last year of 12%.

There was an 18% unemployment rate in Donegal followed by just over 14% in Leitrim and Sligo.

Independent TD in Donegal Thomas Pringle says while the figures are not surprising, he says they confirm the huge task ahead for the new Ministers especially those in this region:
