Sligo/Leitrim TD claims HSE has been forced to slash ten thousand hours from home help services in the region

A Sligo/Leitrim TD is claiming the HSE has been forced to slash 10,000 hours from home help services in Sligo and Leitrim during the past year.

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon says there has been a 13% cut in hours in the first two months of this year compared to the same time last year.

He added that there were 74,063 home help hours provided in the Sligo/Leitrim area in January and February 2016 but this had fallen to 64 for the same period in 2017, a drop of 9,849.

He says the time allocated to home help workers is simply not enough for allow them to do their work, such as washing, changing, cooking and cleaning.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Deputy Scanlon described the situation as ‘crazy.’
