Calls to ensure South Sligo benefits from Knock Airport’s strategic development zone



A South Sligo councillor is calling for all efforts to be made to ensure the Sligo area adjoining County Mayo benefits from a strategic development zone to be developed around Ireland West Airport at Knock.

In one of the last cabinet meetings chaired by Taoiseach Enda Kenny last week, it gave the go-ahead for an area of more than 350 hectares to be designated as an SDZ.

It’s expected the move will result in special development and tax incentives for the area.

Mr Kenny says the decision will secure the longterm development of the airport at Knock as well as attracting enterprise and creating employment.

But Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Paul Taylor wants to ensure the adjoining Sligo area will also benefit.
