Sligo gets ready for Yeats Day

Sligo’s sixth annual Yeats day will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, June 13th.

It’s a celebration of the Nobel Laureate’s birthday.

There’ll be poetry in abundance in church yards and pubs, as well as music and visual arts.

Among the biggest attractions of the event every year is the traditional cutting of a massive birthday cake in O’Connell street by “The Giant of Literature” himself, a 25ft street puppet creation by artist Cillian Rodgers.

Other highlight events are “Yeats with Dermot Bolger” in The Factory Performance Space at 8 pm and the launch of “Crazy Jane”, an exhibition in the Hamilton Gallery.

Yeats day also sees the launch of the 7th Lily Lolly Craft Festival which was inspired by Yeats’s sisters Susan and Elizabeth.
