Shortage of chefs ‘a national crisis’, says Sligo restaurant owner

With the tourism season about to reach its heights, many restauranrts and hotels are facing a serious problem — a shortage of chefs.

About seven restaurants in Sligo alone are at present looking for chefs.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland has described the situation as ‘as crisis’ saying a shortage of chefs is forcing some restaurants to close on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The association is calling for the re-establishment of the hospitality industry’s education and training body CERT.

Sligo restauranteur Anthony Gray says the shortage of chefs is affecting every area, including the North West.
