Ireland’s largest windfarm opens in Donegal today



Ireland’s largest windfarm opens in South Donegal today.

It consists of 38 turbines and is located at Meenadreen.

Each turbine stands 115 metres high with a rotor diameter of 90 metres.

It follows a €145m investment, making it among the most technologically advanced wind power generating facilities in the world.

The company has completed a pilot project, which will see drones inspect the turbines.

Meenadreen alone can power about 50,000 homes using wind energy, which will reduce Ireland’s carbon dioxide emissions by up to 100,000 tonnes each year.

The windfarm, which will be opened at noon today, is operated by Energia.
