Calls for new approach to salmon conservation on local waterways



A Donegal fisherman is calling for a new approach to salmon conservation on waterways.
Political activist and fisherman Liam Whyte feels the current approach is simply not working.
He says that Inland Fisheries Ireland need to look at other causes of the decline in stock such as pollution, invasive species and water quality.
In a statement to Ocean FM today, the IFI says wild salmon are a precious resource and need protection, illegal fishing either at sea or in rivers is unacceptable and Inland Fisheries Ireland staff continue to enforce the regulations where breaches occur.
Liam Whyte says fishermen are being checked frequently and while he accepts its the law he feels the way its done is a problem.
He’s calling for the IFI to sit down around the table and talk to them and come up with a solution:
