Motorists planning to travel through Carrick-on-Shannon this evening are being advised to give themselves plenty of time and to expect delays of up to 45 minutes.
This is because of heavy southbound traffic on the N4 Sligo/Dublin Road into the town.
AA Roadwatch say the delays are due to the sheer volume of traffic travelling through the town today as people take to the roads at the end of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
Gardai are in place and are directing traffic in the town.
