Ballot papers in FG leadership vote will be taken to Dublin for counting



Fine Gael members in Sligo, Leitrim and South Donegal will vote this evening to select a new party leader and Taoiseach.

But an official local result for the constituency will not be announced.

That’s because the votes will be placed in sealed boxes and taken to Dublin for counting.

It will mean people will never know — for sure — who voted for who, despite all the early public declarations of support for the candidates.

There are over 800 members eligible to vote in Sligo Leitrim and more than 500 in Donegal.

The voting takes place from 6pm to 10pm in The Sligo Park Hotel.
