Parents not happy with the HSE’s commitment to respite services



Between 75 to 100 people have been protesting in Ballyshannon this lunchtime as part of a campaign for the reinstatement of respite services for parents of children with disabilities.

Many of them are concerned after the closure of the Seaview Respite Service.

Today’s protest is taking place outside the offices of the HSE in Ballyshannon.

However, the HSE says the service at Seaview House, on the Mountcharles Road in Donegal, has resumed on a phased basis.

In a statement earlier today it apologised for having to cut the service in recent months but said it was due to a shortage of staff due to illness leave and retirement. The HSE says it’s committed to the future of the service.
