London boss says his side eager to show their championship mettle

London manager Ciaran Deely says that his side still feel the excitement of the championship build up, despite being based overseas.

They welcome Leitrim to the newly re-developed Emerald Park in Ruislip at 3.30pm on Sunday in the Connacht quarter-final, with a place in the semi-finals against Roscommon awaiting the winners.

Deely says his players are eager to show they can be competitive…

London reached the Connacht final in 2013 after knocking out both Sligo and Leitrim along the way, with the Leitrim semi-final going to a replay.

But Deely says that campaign will have little bearing on this weekend’s game…

Leitrim overcame London in the league earlier on this year, but boss Brendan Guckian says that there is not much between the teams…

Leitrim captain Donal Wrynn says that this year’s defeat of London in the National League means nothing going into Sunday’s championship game in Ruislip.

Leitrim were comprehensive winners when the sides clashed in Carrick-on-Shannon earlier in the year, but, with London travelling over for all of their league games this year due to the redevelopment of their grounds at Ruislip, centre-back Wrynn says there is no point reading into their league form…

The teams were named yesterday, with Darragh Rooney, Jack Heslin, Keith Beirne and Oisin Madden all set to make their championship debut for Leitrim.

Liam Gavaghan, whose father hails from Aclare in Sligo, captains the London team from midfield, and admits preparing for championship games in London is difficult…

Sunday’s game is live on Ocean FM in association with John McManus and all at McManus Pharmacy, Manohamilton.
