A south Donegal councillor has come out in support of Simon Coveney.
Ballyshannon Councillor Barry O’Neill is the only Fine Gael politician in the North West to publicly confirm his support for the Cork TD so far.
Speaking to Ocean FM News, he says he has been considering his options over the past few days and he has now made an informed decision and will support the former Agriculture Minister.
He has accused colleagues of jumping on the Varadkar wagon too fast and he is even urging them to reconsider their choice ahead of next week’s vote.
He says both are good candidates but he feels that with his more rural background, Minister Coveney is, in his eyes, a far stronger contender:
However, If Coveney is to win, a number of parliamentary party members would need to change their mind.
