Number on Live Register in North West continues to fall



The number of people on the live register in the North West is continuing to fall.

Just over 19,000 people signed on in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim in April, over 200 fewer than the month previous.

This figure is in line with the national trend and represents the lowest number of people signing on in the region since February 2008.

Donegal had the highest figure of those signing on in the region, with 13,381 people searching for full-time work.

Next was Sligo where that figure stood at 3,628. While in Leitrim there were 1,672 people signing on.

Nationally, there was just over 263,000 people on the live register in April. A fall of 4,000 from the previous month.

The number of young people on the live register in each of Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal has also fallen.

Just over 2,200 people under the age of 25 claimed assistance in the North West in April. A drop from March’s figure of just under 2,400.

Next is Sligo where 417 people under 25 are searching for full-time work. While that figure stands at 227 in County Leitrim.
