Mobile network expansion must include rural areas says Donegal TD



A Donegal TD says the government has missed a trick in relation to improving mobile phone coverage in rural areas of the North West.

Pat the Cope Gallagher welcomed the government’s decision to sell the 5G spectrum license to five mobile phone operators for a sum in the region of €78 million.

But he says that while the expansion will improve the signal in areas where coverage is good, it offered nothing to those in areas where it’s poor.

Deputy Gallagher says the government failed to take the opportunity to put pressure on mobile phone companies to expand their coverage into areas of the region where signals are weak:
