Donegal athletes excel at Ulster schools finals



The Ulster Schools Athletics finals held in ideal conditions at the Antrim Forum on Friday and Saturday last lived up to its billing as the top underage meet of the season in the province. Numerous championship best performances, and a host of exciting and closely fought events both on the track and in the field were witnessed by a crowd in excess of 5,000.

Donegal and North West youngsters were amongst the role of honour with schools from across the region gaining numerous podium positions. 

Sixteen years old Castlederg lass Sommer Leaky is one of the bright new prospects of Irish athletics. The Strabane Academy/Finn Valley AC student enthralled an appreciative crowd and smashed a number of records when clearing 1.85m in the Senior Girls High Jump. She went so close to 1.87m on her second attempt and now looks forward to a great season which finds her qualifying for Commonwealth Games Youths and European Junior[Under 20] c/ships.
