CSO: Most people moving home are renting rather than buying



Most of the people in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim who changed home in the year before the 2016 Census were moving into rented accommodation.

And in all three counties, only a relatively small number were buying a new home with a mortgatge or loan.

In Donegal, only 363 of the 2,520 households who moved in the year before the census were buying with a mortgage or loan.

1,712 of the Donegal housholds were renting their accommodation.

In Sligo, only 189 of the 1,509 households who moved in the year before the census were buying with a mortgage or loan.

1,120 of the Sligo housholds were renting their accommodation.

And in Leitrim, only 88 of the 675 households who moved in the year before the census were buying with a mortgage or loan. 453 were renting their accommodation.
