No firm indication yet as to when work will start on N4 road

It’s likely to to be the first quarter of 2019 before construction will start on the new N4 route to be built between Collooney and Castlebaldwin.

That’s despite the signing of a contract for engineering consultancy services for the project that was signed this week.

The company involved in the contract signing, Halcrow Barry, is expected to have contract documents ready by this November, enabling Sligo County Council to be ready to seek tenders for the work before the end of this year.

In the past three decades, more than 30 people have lost their lives on the current dangerous stretch of the road.

But as Council Director of Services Tom Kilfeather tells Ocean FM News, there is, at present, no indication when construction work will actually start on the long-awaited route.
