Local Councillor calls on Minster to amend 2017 National Reserve rules

A local councillor is calling on the Minster for Agriculture to amend the rules on the 2017 National Reserve.

Leitrim County Councillor, Brendan Barry, says that young farmers who will be completing their Agricultural courses in June will not currently qualify for the 2017 National Reseve under current rules as they need to have the studies completed my May 15th.

in the 2015 national Reserve, students who had begun their courses would qualify but the new rules say that they must already have their qualification.

Speaking to OCean FM News, Sinn Fein Councillor Brendan Barry says that the reason why young farmers haven’t completed their studies is due to Teagasc not having enough places.
