Sligo council cathaoirleach launches sun awareness campaign



A new campaign called Sun Smart has been launched this morning in County Hall, Riverside, Sligo, to raise awareness of the dangers of the sun.

According to the Irish Cancer Society, 23% of skin cancer deaths in Ireland are of people working in the construction, outdoor and farming industries.

10,000 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every year in Ireland, and figures show that 166 people were diagnosed in Sligo.

The Irish Cancer Society has teamed up with the Irish Farmers Association and the Construction Industry Federation to promote this awareness campaign.

Speaking to Ocean FM News this morning, the Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council, Hubert Keaney,outlined the aim of the campaign.
