Killybegs residents asked if there’s need to set up branch of The Fishermen’s Mission

People living and working in the Killybegs port area of Donegal are being asked for their opinions on whether there is a need to set up a branch of The Fishermen’s Mission in the coastal town.

The Fishermen’s Mission, a charity, was established in 1881.

Among the services provided by the Mission are financial help with rent, food, heating, and lighting bills; responding to emergency calls for help; helping injured, sick or shipwrecked fishermen; support during bereavements or family breakdown; and offering guidance through the benefits system and grant applications.

A meeting about the possibility of setting up a branch of the mission took place recently in the Swan Net-Gundry in Killybegs.

The meeting heard of the difficulties faced by fishermen aboard foreign vessels calling at Killybegs, many of whom are Indonesian and Muslim.

Many want to contact their families but there is no wi-fi in Killybegs Fishery Harbour, the meeting was told.,
