Councillor to ask about fire inspections on Sligo apartment

A Sligo councillor is to ask at a council meeting today about inspections on an apartment building in Sligo Town in which two men — a father and son — recently lost their lives.

At a meeting of Sligo County Council this morning, Independent Councillor Declan Bree will propose a motion calling for what he is describing as ‘a comprehensive report.’

He wants it to include details about if and when inspections were carried out on the building, the result of any inspections and if any notices were served on the landlord.

Cllr Bree also wants to know if any legal action was initiated by the council.

Christopher ‘Sunny’ Harte, 64, and his son, Sean, 33, were found on the second floor of the three-storey building on Market Street, beside the Lady Erin statue.

The fire occurred in a first-floor apartment.
