Council warns ‘controlled burning is strictly prohibited’

Sligo Fire Service has confirmed that a forest fire in Easkey has now has been successfully contained.

The biggest challenge faced by the Fire crews was gaining access to the fire, with an area of particular concern deep in the forestry between Lough Easkey and Lough Talt, a distance from any road.

The Air Corps helicopter was at the scene until 8 o clock on Saturday fighting the fire with 1,000 litre capacity ‘Bambi’ buckets.

Meanwhile, Sligo County Council points out that with sporadic fires persisting in Easkey, Geevagh and Slish Wood, the practice of ‘controlled burning’ during this continuing dry spell is strictly prohibited.
