Gorse and forestry fires continuing to affect the region



Gorse and forestry fires continue to affect the region today.

Four units of fire service from Sligo, Tubbercurry and Ballina are in attendance at forestry and gorse fire in Easkey. A helicopter with a ‘bambi’ bucket that has the capacity to hold 1,000 litres of water has arrived to assist in the operation

There are also reports of sporadic outbreaks of fire in pockets at Slish Wood, the situation is currently under review there

A fire in the Geevagh/Ballyfarnon area was attended to by Sligo, Leitrim, Roscommon and Longford fire services yesterday and Sligo personell controlled the fire at 11pm last night.

Fire Services are receiving a large amount of calls and is requesting people to only provide specific information in relation to the fires.
