More than 30 troops from Finner Camp in County Donegal are among those being reviewed today by the Minister for Defence before they head to the Lebanon.
Minister Paul Kehoe, with the Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces, Vice Admiral Mark Mellett, are reviewing the men and women of the 110th Infantry Battalion ahead of their six month deployment to South Lebanon as part of a UN force.
They will take command of a multinational battalion, which includes a company of soldiers from Finland and a platoon from Estonia.
The deployment will keep the Irish contribution to the UNIFIL mission of 370 soldiers, sailors and air crew, representing Ireland’s largest current overseas deployment.

Among the personnel travelling to the Lebanon are 32 from the 28th Infantry Battalion from Finner Camp, Ballyshannon.
