Record numbers on trolleys but situation improving at Sligo hospital



A record number of over 2,600 people were left waiting on trolleys in hospitals in the North West between January and April this year, according to figures released today.

However, Sligo University Hospital saw a drop from last year’s record figure of over 1,100.

The numbers, which were published by the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, saw in the region of 36,000 people waiting for beds in hospitals across the country in the same period. The highest number since records began in 2006.

In Letterkenny University Hospital, there was a total of 1,676 people waiting on trolleys in the first four months of this year, a jump of over 1,000 from the same time last year.

Today, there are currently 76 people on trolleys in the region.

In Sligo University Hospital there are 12 people waiting for a bed, while in Letterkenny University Hospital that number is 30.

In University College Hospital Galway, there are 34 people on trolleys today.
