Fire services from both Leitrim and Sligo are at the scene of an extensive gorse fire which broke out on the mountainside at Killery and Crossboy, close to Ballintogher and Dromahair.
No injuries have been reported.
Plumes of smoke are visible for miles around as the blaze — becoming more visible as darkness falls Wednesday night — burns down the mountainside through heather, gorse, bushes and vegetation overlooking Lough Gill.
Fire crews have managed to protect two houses and are now in the process of protecting forestry.
The Coast Guard helicopter has been mobilised to monitor the situation.
