Gerard Lyttle favourite to take Rovers job after leaving Cliftonville

Sligo Rovers look set to confirm Gerard Lyttle as their new first team coach this evening.

Irish League side Cliftonville announced in the past hour that Lyttle has resigned from the club, and a statement is expected from the Bit O’ Red this evening to confirm his appointment to the Showgrounds hotseat.

Former Sligo Rovers defender Jason McGuinness currently plays with the Belfast club, and has been linked with a coaching role under Lyttle at the Showgrounds, should he be appointed to the job.

Rovers parted company with Dave Robertson on the week before last.

Even if the appointment is confirmed today, Rovers interim manager Declan McIntyre will remain in charge for tomorrow’s northwest derby at home to Showgrounds.
