Call for councils to seek more resources to provide services through Irish

Local authorities should make their case to get more resources to enable them provide their services through the Irish language.

That’s according to a former Leitrim county librarian who points out that local authorities have an obligation to provide such a service but they haven’t the time or staff to do so.

Sean O Suilleabhan made a presentation to this week’s Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting of Leitrim County Council during which he outlined what he feels needs to be done to promote the Irish language more.

He told Ocean FM what the situation is at present with local authorities, such as county councils.
