Carthy: ‘UK election an opportunity to build for a united Ireland’

A North West MEP says Theresa May’s calling of a general election in the UK is an opportunity to build further toward having a referendum on a united Ireland.

Sinn Fein’s Matt Carthy says it’s clear the concerns and needs of the people in the North of Ireland do not register on the British government’s agenda.

He also insists that Brexit has starkly highlighted what he describes as the undemocratic, unnatural and unjust nature of partition.

He says the forthcoming British election campaign will give politicians the chance to outline why people in the North would be better off under Irish unity.
