Concerns over plans to close Cairns Hill water treatment plant



A Sligo/Leitrim TD is warning that Irish Water’s intention to close one of two water treatment plants in Sligo will damage the areas ability to attract new business and to promote development.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry says the proposed closure of the Cairns Hill water treatment plant and distribution works will mean a significant reduction in capacity.

Ane he says while there are plans to upgrade another treatment plant in the town, known as Foxes Den, he says the necessary works have not started.

He insists that if Cairns Hill is closed this June, as is planned, Sligo has not the capacity to cater for new companies or any other development with a major water demand.
