Queenan warns about shortage of holiday homes

Sligo County Council wants holiday homes built in the future to be of the same standard as those built for permanent residential use.

Councillors agreed on the move while discussing a draft new County Developement Plan this week.

Chief Executive Ciaran Hayes says the purpose of the proposal is to ensure holiday homes are built in future to a higher standard.

There may be certain exceptions, such accommodation for short-term accommodation by tourists, for examples chalets.

However, one councillor says they need to tread carefully in cases where people are providing holiday homes.
