Manorhamilton businessman says he can’t recruit mechanics



A businessman in north Leitrim says he cannot recruit mechanics because they are simply leaving the North West area.

Phillip Rooney is the Chair of the Business Forum in Manorhamilton and runs a local garage.

He has been commenting following the latest cuts which were announced at Ulster Bank in Donegal and Sligo.

The branch in Manorhamilton closed two years ago and just this week a rural resettlement programme which actually encouraged people to move to counties like Leitrim is closing due to a lack of funding.

Mr. Rooney says the knock-on effects of these decisions are driving people from the region and leaving gaps in the local economy:
