Leitrim councillor raises questions over discharges into Lough Melvin

A Leitrim councillor has raised concerns about what is being discharged into Lough Melvin from a sewerage treatment plant in County Fermanagh.

Fianna Fail councillor Justin Warnock told a Manorhamilton Municipal District meeting of Leitrim County Council that people in Askill, Co Leitrim, and Bundoran, Co Donegal, get their water from Lough Melvin.

He also fears fish are being threatened, particularly the endangered Arctic Char species.

Cllr Warnock has now asked Leitrim County Council to contact Fermanagh District Council about discharges from its Garrison sewerage treatment plant.
